Keeping our roads safe
Various initiatives have been introduced in Holbrook, in an attempt to keep the roads safer for everyone. Close liaison with the police speed safety team resulted in a traffic survey being carried out by the police over a week back in 2021. As a result of that survey, Holbrook was designated a "green" area, which meant that there was sufficient evidence of speeding to warrant intermittent police presence. In practice this means that a police speed van will visit Holbrook approximately once a month.
In addition to this, the Holbrook Community Speedwatch Team was launched. Ian Bowell very kindly offered to coordinate the team which has now been up and running for over 2 years. 3 of the team members are required for each speed watch and the aim is to go out to one of the three police approved locations once a fortnight. Anyone who is caught on camera as speeding is then logged and the information is sent through to the police speed safety team. There are restrictions as to where the team can operate, but the hope is that the introduction of these measures will encourage people to be speed aware within our village and beyond.
Holbrook also has Static speed camera which is moved from time to time to one of the three approved sites. The statistics from this also get fed back to the police road safety team.
In addition, we registered to have periodic visits by an ANPR (Automated Number Plate Recognition) camera and the data from the ANPR is forwarded to Holbrook Parish Council
If anyone would like to join Holbrook's Community Speedwatch Team, please let the Parish Clerk know, who will pass on your details and interest to Ian Bowell. The more volunteers we have, the less onerous the task is.
