Holbrook is a village situated close to the northern shore of the Stour estuary in Suffolk, England. It is located on the Shotley peninsula in Babergh district, around 8.05 km (5 miles) south of Ipswich. Lower Holbrook is a hamlet between Holbrook and Harkstead.
The village has a pub, The Swan situated next to the Coop Store on The Street.The Co-op store also has a Post Office. In addition, there is a butcher's shop, a village hall, various stalls selling produce, including The Potato Hut at Woodlands Farm. There is also a busy Doctors' Surgery on The Street. The area is served by a pre-school playgroup, primary school and Holbrook Academy. The parish church is dedicated to All Saints. The village also has a Methodist church. Holbrook has an on-call fire station. Holbrook's policing is provided by the Hadleigh Safer Neighbourhood Team. The village is visited by the mobile library service and a pizza maker. Until recently, there was a regular visit by a Fish and Chip van on Thursdays in the Village Car Park, but sadly, the van is no longer trading.
There are a number of interest groups: Holbrook Society (including Holbrook Events) which puts on visits to interesting places, talks on a variety of topics in the village hall, monthly film showings, and a monthly village meal. There is also a Flower Club, a Bowls Club, an Art Club, a Quoits Team and Football teams. Holbrook Helpers is the Neighbourhood Support Scheme who aim to provide support to residents when needed in the form of shopping, transport to medical appointments, etc. Yoga and Pilates classes are held in the village hall and an outdoor fitness group is held weekly on the Village Hall Green.
To the south of the village is the Royal Hospital School, which moved to this site in 1933 after having been situated at Greenwich Hospital since 1693.
The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside. There are dedicated footpaths and a cycle path around Alton Water and Holbrook Creek is a short walk from the centre of the village.
