Meet Your Councillors

John Ambrose

Councillor John Ambrose

We have lived in Holbrook since 1985 and I have been actively involved with village activities and recently the Parish Council as its Chairman. I believe that the Parish Council should represent all residents, to listen to their concerns and taking them up with the appropriate authorities. It is my intention to continue to be an active member of the community and to be a point of contact for residents.

Special Responsibilities - Chairman

Robert Allinson

Councillor Robert Allinson

I was born in Holbrook and grew up on Heathfield Road, before leaving to study Forestry and Wood Science at Bangor University. I returned to the village in 2013 with my wife, Emily (who also grew up in Holbrook) and our children, George and Esme, to build a timber house on Fishponds Lane.
I have been a Parish Councillor since early 2020, have served as the Tree Warden since 2016 and enjoy contributing regularly to the Parish Papers. I have also been lucky enough to have been involved with friends in organising ‘Captain Blood’ since 2014.
I work in the timber industry and enjoy all aspects of our wonderful surroundings, including long walks and messing about on the river.

Special Responsibilities - Tree Warden, Vice Chairman

Gerald Abbott

Councillor Gerald Abbott

I have lived in Holbrook for 59 years so I would call myself a Holbrook person
I farmed at Brook Farm with my father for many years. I also took a very active role in looking after Holbrook Creek with Peter Page for many years and was on the Parish Council for a number of years about 25/30 years ago.

Rick Connick

Councillor Rick Connick

I have lived on the Peninsula for over 9 years now and over 8 years in Holbrook.

Away from work I help out behind the scenes with Holbrook Swan Football Club which includes raising money through sponsorship for the team and running the Facebook page. I also have been helping out raising money for the new Pavilion on Reade Field.
I have recently taken up quoits within the village too.
Becoming a Councillor is completely new to me but is a a challenge I am excited about

Melanie Holmes

Councillor Melanie Holmes

My family have lived in the village since the 1870s. Two generations of my ancestors, the Wagstaff family, ran the Sorrell Horse Pub (once opposite All Saints Church), as well as running a builder’s company from the same property. My Dad is still a Builder, keeping up the family trade. I left the village to study at Liverpool University in 1994; lived between Ipswich and London between 1998 and 2005; before returning to the peninsula on arrival of my daughter in 2005.
I now live in the East of Holbrook village with my wife, daughter, two Shetland Sheepdogs, tabby cat and five bantam chickens. I am a full-time Teacher, currently working in the Chantry area of Ipswich. I was one of the founding volunteers with Holbrook Helpers, coordinating prescriptions and deliveries of medications during the Covid-19 outbreak.
I endeavour to ensure that residents in my local area have a voice in the Parish and to play my part in keeping Holbrook a safe and tidy place to live. I enjoy long walks with my family; free-camping, hiking and swimming around the Western coast and islands of Scotland; free-writing; playing djembe and bodhran drums; bird-watching; DJing; reading about nature and natural history; and kicking back to watch wildlife documentaries with my family.

Councillor Sally Ingleton

Joined PC because if felt if I was fortunate enough to live in such a wonderful village as Holbrook I would like to give back to the community anyway I could

Andrew King

Councillor Andrew King

Having proposed to my wife Lisa on a glorious dog walk at Alton Water, it was entirely coincidental that when it came to moving to Suffolk, the peninsular happened to be in the centre of our very strict geographical search criteria. We were fortunate to fall in love with a house in Holbrook and the village on our first weekend of house hunting and the feeling of connection was strong straight away. We moved in in May ’19 and immediately tried to immerse ourselves in village life although the pandemic got in the way for a while. We adore the village and have been made to feel extremely welcome as we are becoming part of the community.
I have worked in the transformation, transition and change arena for most of my career and over the last ten years have managed large portfolios of projects and programmes for the pension industry. I hope to be able to bring some expertise from my work into supporting the Parish Council acting on behalf of Holbrook’s residents.
In addition to joining the Parish Council, I am a member of the core team that look after the Alton Water Parkrun and I also volunteer for a charity that re-homes ex-commercial farm chickens to local back garden keepers.

Denise Martin

Councillor Denise Martin

Born and brought up in a village in Somerset, I moved to Suffolk to take up my first teaching post, where, apart from a brief spell in Devon, I have remained.
My family and I moved to Holbrook in 2004 having had contact with RHS and Ipswich High School and realising what a beautiful part of the County it was in which to live. Once retired, I was able to take a more active role in Village life. I joined the Peninsula gym, Peninsula Swimming Club, as well as enjoying Zumba classes at Holbrook Primary - something which I hope will resume soon.

Max Pittman

Councillor Max Pittman

I have lived in Holbrook for the past 20 years, having moved from Stutton at the age of 2. I am currently working at a Big 4 professional services firm as an apprentice, looking to become a chartered accountant in the next couple years.
I love all things sport, with football being the centre of my life for many years. I run a lot so I'm sure you'll see me round the village now and again.
I've joined the Parish Council to give back to the community and to also give a voice to the younger generation of Holbrook. Hope to see you around, always open for a chat!

Alec Wright

Councillor Alec Wright

Having visited Holbrook regularly as a youngster, our family moved to Holbrook in Oct 2018 and we have fallen in love with the village and surrounding areas. My wife Jennifer and I are very keen runners and can probably be spotted out running around Holbrook and the surrounding areas most days. We have one son, Leonardo, who attends the local school and Scouts. We also have a Cockapoo that we love taking for walks and visits to the local pubs.
As a professional project and change manager, I have spent my career working in large corporations and helping businesses to solve complex and long-term challenges and problems. I am keen to use my passionate and skills for continuous improvement and change to aid our village.
Feel free to stop me and say hello or ask a question if you see. I look forward to seeing around the village.

Justin Stephens

Councillor Justin Stephens

Hello, I’m Justin Stephens. I’ve been living in Holbrook for just over a year now, and I truly appreciate the serene countryside lifestyle. As a member of two local groups—the Holbrook Community Self-Help Group and Eco Church—I actively contribute to projects that benefit our community. Music, cinema, and travel are my passions, although I haven’t explored them as much since my recent move. Asia and the Middle East hold a special place in my heart.
Gardening is another interest of mine. While I’m no expert, I find it incredibly therapeutic. By day, I work as a Manager at a software support desk within the BT complex in Martlesham.
